A two-handed sword is a large, heavy sword designed to be wielded with both hands on the grip.
Compared to one-handed swords, two-handed swords have longer blades—often four feet or more in length—and extended hilts that can accommodate the space needed for two hands. The extra length and weight provide greater striking power and reach, although wielding such a weapon requires more strength and skill.
Examples of two-handed swords include the Zweihänder (German), the Claymore (Scottish), and the Montante (Iberian) from the late medieval and Renaissance periods.
