Learning first aid is one of the most important skills somebody could ever learn. When you’re in an emergency situation, time is critical, and you may not have much of it. Even a few seconds or minutes can decide whether somebody lives or dies. Your ability to adequately provide the initial treatment may save somebody’s life.
This is why it’s so important to have a first aid kit in your home, car, bug-out bag, or anywhere else it may be needed.
Unfortunately, simply having a kit isn’t enough. You also have to know how to use it. If you’re able to, it is always an excellent idea to take a legitimate first aid course, such as this one offered by the Red Cross.
One of the more obvious reasons why learning first aid is a good idea is the ability to prevent somebody, even a friend or family member from bleeding out if they get hurt. Proper training can also help avoid infections, remove minor foreign objects, and prevent further complications. The most important part of first aid is the knowledge. For example, if you are able to accurately diagnose somebody’s ailments, then you are much more likely to give them the help they need.
Learning first aid is such an obviously good idea that once you tell your friends that you have learned it, they will probably want to learn it too. This means when other people need help, it’s more likely they will be able to receive it. It’s a particularly good idea for those who have children, as you never know when they might get hurt. If you’re shy about going, getting a friend to go with you might be a lot of fun!
