Today I will be doing a review on the Augymer chef knife.

This is a great knife, with so much utility that you might decide you don’t need many of the other knives in your kitchen. It’s capable of doing it all, whether it’s cutting meat, vegetables, or fruits, and it has a beautiful damascus design to boot.

A Versatile Chef Blade

This is a great knife, with so much utility that you might decide you don’t need many of the other knives in your kitchen. It’s capable of doing it all, whether it’s cutting meat, vegetables, or fruits, and it has a beautiful damascus design to boot.

PROS

  • Made from high-carbon Japanese steel with damascus design.
  • Ultra-sharp and maintains it’s edge.
  • 8-inch blade.
  • The wooden handle is durable and slip resistant.
  • Ergonomically designed and a pleasure to handle.

CONS

  • This knife has a wooden handle, which is pretty nice, but you may find it a little harder to clean, when compared to a metal handled knife.

Ergonomic Hardwood Handle

This knife has an elegant ergonomic shape which ensures superior comfort while in use. This is a very important feature which is often under-looked.

When cooking large amounts of food in a commercial kitchen, you are usually using your knives quite a lot. This can sometimes cause your hands to hurt or even mental frustration, which can affect your work.
The handle of this knife feels better then most other knives. It has a hardwood handle which makes it very easy to grip.

High-Carbon Japanese Steel Blade

The Augymer chef knife is made from high-carbon Japanese steel. This ensures that the blade will not only sharpen properly, but retain it’s edge over time as well.

Having a quality blade allows you to cut through food without worrying about the blade constantly becoming dull, or falling apart, possibly injuring the user. Lower quality blades can easily become damaged.

Due to the quality blade, you can easily sharpen this knife with a standard steel rod sharpening tool.

In addition to being made from high-carbon Japanese steel, the blade also features an intricate damascus design.

The steel blade is also corrosion resistant, however, blades such as this should be washed by hand and not thrown into a diswasher.

Well-Balanced Blade

The Augymer chef knife is well-balanced and feels solid in your hand.

The weight seems balanced and cutting it feels relatively natural. Having a balanced knife is key safety feature in kitchen knives.

It also has a bolstered handle.

With the distributed weight, you will find the Augymer quite efficient to cut with.
Protective Sheath

Similarly to many other knives in this price range, it comes with a plastic protective sheath to store the knife in.

This is another important safety feature, as an open blade can not only be dangerous, but it can also wear out your blade faster, as the blade comes in contact with the surrounding atmosphere.

Conclusion

I really like the Augymer chef knife.

It’s a great knife with nearly all of the features one might want in a knife.

This knife can be used for quite a lot of tasks throughout the kitchen.

The damascus styled blade, as well as the gift box the knife comes in, would make a fantastic gift for the chef in your family.
