West Virginia SB 96 would expand the state’s firearms preemption statue to include several different ‘deadly weapons’, including knives. It was passed out of the Judiciary Committee through a bipartisan vote of 16-1. The Senate will be voting on the issue shortly.
If you live in West Virginia, then be sure to send your Senator an email and ask them to vote YES on SB 96.
Preemption prevents the enforcement of existing local knife ordinances. It also prohibits new ordinances which may be more restrictive then the state law. Often-times these types of laws are confusing because when most people look up legislation, they simply look up their state laws. We feel it’s important that laws are clear and easily understood.
